Day-by-Day Itinerary :8 Days 3 Peaks Rwenzori Expedition Challenge

Day 1: Nyakalengija (1650m) to Nyabitaba Camp (2650m)

Your expedition begins at Nyakalengija, a bustling village in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains. After registration and briefing, you’ll set off on the Central Circuit Trail, hiking through the tropical rainforest and ascending to Nyabitaba Camp. The camp is situated in a clearing surrounded by tall trees, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

The hike takes approximately 5-6 hours, and you’ll have the opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife, including monkeys and birds. You’ll also pass through several villages, where you can experience the unique culture and hospitality of the local communities.

Day 2: Nyabitaba Camp (2650m) to John Matte Camp (3505m)

Today’s hike takes you through the bamboo zone and into the alpine meadows, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. You’ll ascend to John Matte Camp, situated in a rocky outcrop with stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

The hike takes approximately 6-7 hours, and you’ll have the opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife, including antelopes and birds. You’ll also pass through several streams and rivers, where you can refresh yourself and take in the stunning scenery.

Day 3: John Matte Camp (3380m) to Bujuku Camp (3962m)

Your hike today takes you through the upper bigo bog and into the alpine zone, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and glaciers. You’ll ascend to Bujuku Camp, situated in a rocky outcrop with breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

The hike takes approximately 6-7 hours, and you’ll have the opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife, including monkeys and birds. You’ll also pass through several streams and rivers, where you can refresh yourself and take in the stunning scenery.

Day 4: Bujuku Camp (3900m) to Mount Speke (Victoria Emmanuelle Peak 4520m)

Today’s hike takes you to the summit of Mount Speke, the second-highest peak in the Rwenzori Mountains. You’ll ascend through the rocky terrain and glaciers, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape.

The hike takes approximately 7-8 hours, and you’ll have the opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife, including antelopes and birds. You’ll also pass through several streams and rivers, where you can refresh yourself and take in the stunning scenery.

Day 5: Bujuku Camp (3900m) to Elena Camp (4541m) | 3 Peaks Rwenzori Expedition Challenge

Your hike today takes you to Elena Camp, situated in a rocky outcrop with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. You’ll ascend through the rocky terrain and glaciers, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

The hike takes approximately 6-7 hours, and you’ll have the opportunity to spot a variety of wildlife, including monkeys and birds. You’ll also pass through several streams and rivers, where you can refresh yourself and take in the stunning scenery.

Day 6: Elena Camp (4541m) to Margherita Peak (5109m) and Kitandara Lakes Camp

Today’s hike is the most challenging yet rewarding day of your expedition. You’ll ascend to the summit of Margherita Peak, the highest peak in the Rwenzori Mountains, standing at an impressive 5109 meters above sea level. The hike takes you through the rocky terrain and glaciers, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The sense of accomplishment and pride you’ll feel as you stand at the summit is unparalleled.

After summiting, you’ll begin your descent to Kitandara Lakes Camp, situated in a rocky outcrop with stunning views of the surrounding landscape. The camp is nestled between two sparkling lakes, offering a serene and peaceful atmosphere. You’ll have the opportunity to rest and relax, taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

Day 7: Freshfield Camp to Mount Baker | 3 Peaks Rwenzori Expedition Challenge

Your hike today takes you to the summit of Mount Baker, the third-highest peak in the Rwenzori Mountains. You’ll ascend through the rocky terrain and glaciers, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. The hike is challenging, but the sense of accomplishment you’ll feel as you stand at the summit is well worth the effort.

Mount Baker offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys, including the majestic Margherita Peak. You’ll have the opportunity to take in the breathtaking views, capturing memories that will last a lifetime.

Day 8: Guy Yeoman Camp (3505m) to Nyabitaba Camp

Your final day’s hike takes you back to Nyabitaba Camp, descending through the alpine meadows and bamboo zone. The hike is a gradual descent, offering stunning views of the surrounding landscape. You’ll have the opportunity to reflect on your incredible journey, taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and valleys.

You’ll arrive back at Nyakalengija in the evening, marking the end of your 8-day expedition challenge. You’ll be exhausted but exhilarated, with memories that will last a lifetime.
