Thereafter, you’ll ascend to the bamboo zone dominated by bamboo trees. Walking further, you’ll cross River Bujjuku and finally reach John Matte, crossing mossy forested trees. Day 3: John Matte (3380m) – Bujuku (3962m)
The third day of your journey kicks off from John Matte, with a hot breakfast to energize you for the day’s hike. After crossing River Bujjuku, you’ll traverse the beautiful swamp of giant lobelias, also known as the lower Bigo Bog. Enjoy the thrilling boardwalk that leads you to a steep ascent to the upper Bigo Bog, an area characterized by boggy terrain and groundsels. This will then give way to a vast landscape of tussocks and a slippery area located near Lake Bujjuku. A boardwalk will ease your passage through the very slippery trail, after which you’ll adventure through the tussocks until you walk through to Bujuku Camp. Dinner and overnight will be enjoyed here, in an incredible setting where the three peaks of Stanley, Baker, and Speke form a triangle, making this the Bujjuku Valley.
Day 4: Bujuku Camp (3900m) – Mount Speke (Victoria Emmanuel Peak 4520m)
Today, you’ll embark on a challenging yet rewarding hike to Mount Speke, the first peak of your expedition. You’ll ascend the Stuhlmann’s Pass, a route named after a renowned explorer who recognized the unique features of the Rwenzori Mountains. Cross the snowline of Mount Speke and reach the highest point, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape. After capturing the moment, you’ll descend back to Bujuku Camp.
Day 5: Bujuku Camp (3900m) – Elena Camp (4541m)
Day 5 takes you to Elena Camp, a cold camp located within huge rocks. You’ll walk through the slippery ascending to the gully, hike the steep area before being welcomed by huge mossy rocks towards Scott Elliot Pass. Day 6: Elena Camp (4541m) – Margherita Peak (5109m) – Kitandara Lakes Camp
