1 Day Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Tour

Safari Overview: 1 Day Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Tour

The one-day Ngamba Island chimpanzee tour brings you to Ngamba Island, a Chimpanzee Sanctuary and a home for rescued/orphaned chimps on Lake Victoria.

Chimpanzees and humans share 98 percent of their DNA, and this incredible Uganda tour allows you to get up close and personal with these magnificent apes, learning how they feed, communicate, and socialize, among other fascinating habits.

The Chimpanzee Sanctuary and Wildlife Conservation Trust manage the Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary. It was established in 1998 and is conveniently located on Lake Victoria in Entebbe.

Today, the sanctuary alone is home to approximately 50 chimps, as well as a variety of reptile species. Your journey starts and ends in Kampala/Entebbe.

Ngamba Island is a forested island of 100 acres containing orphaned chimps.

You’ll learn about the history of the location, see some woodland birds, and take in the gorgeous view of Lake Victoria, among other things. You will have a stopover in the Equator on your way back, and if you enjoy swimming, you will have some time to cool off yourself.

You will visit Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC), formerly known as the Entebbe Zoo, after your chimp tour and lunch at Ngamba Island Chimpanzee Sanctuary.

This is where you may see a variety of creatures like lions, buffaloes, rhinos, elephants, leopards, giraffes, and birds such as the shoebill stork. Return to your hotel or place of stay later.
