Day 2: John Matte Hut to Elena Hut (4563m) | Rwenzori Hike Itinerary
Following breakfast at John Matte Hut, you will go off on a strenuous walk across numerous rivers and streams through steep and slick terrain. You’ll see distant vistas of Alexandra and Margherita Peaks throughout the route. You pass through the lower Bigo Bog on the route, where boardwalks facilitate navigation. Encountering gigantic lobelias, groundsels, and the stunning everlasting flowers in the alpine zone while traversing rugged parts of Mount Stanley is part of the route’s promise of distinctive vegetation. After such a busy but rewarding day, you will be rewarded with a nice meal when you get at Ellena Hut. Be sure to stay warm because the temperatures are very low here and there may be strong gusts at times. Spend the night before the summit day. Rwenzori Hike Itinerary
Day 3: Elena Hut to Margherita Peak (5109m) to Bujuku Hut (3930m)
With your equipment and lights serving as your sources of light and most likely the moon, the summit day starts early, at around 4 a.m. Your knowledgeable guide will lead you every step of the way as you begin your climb through the rocky terrain. In some places, you will use ropes to navigate the Stanley Glacier under the guidance of the guides. In order to navigate the icy section, crampons will also be necessary here. Once you have traversed the glacier, you will take off your crampons and proceed to ascend via the rocky regions to reach the Margherita Glacier. You reach Margherita Peak, the highest point of the Rwenzoris 5109 meters, after completing this difficult section. You will return to Elena Hut for lunch after celebrating your accomplishment at the summit, which is known as the highest point in Uganda or the third highest point in Africa. As the day progresses, you will descend to Bujuku Hut, where you will have dinner and spend the night thinking back on your amazing achievement and overcome obstacle.
Day 4: Nyabitaba Hut to Bujuku Hut (2660m) | Rwenzori Hike Itinerary
You will begin your descent via the upper Bigo Bog after breakfast at Bujuku Hut. After that, you will continue through the lower Bigo Bog to John Matte Hut for lunch and rest. The trail continues along the same path you took on your ascent, although it slopes more quickly and is less crowded than it was on the ascent. In contrast to the thin air in Ellena camp, you begin to breathe more easily and the air itself becomes thicker. Enjoy your final evening in the mountains by making your way down to Nyabitaba Hut, where you will have dinner and spend the night.
Day 5: Nyabitaba Hut to Nyakalengija
The last part of your adventure, which begins with breakfast at Nyabitaba Hut, will take you through the verdant montane forest at the foot of Mount Rwenzori before you return to Nyakalengija and continue on to your next stop. This is the end of your journey, which was filled with breathtaking scenery, amazing vistas, a variety of ecosystems, and the anticipation of climbing one of Africa’s tallest peaks—a unique experience that can only be attained with perseverance and resolve.
